The Pedallers' Arms

So the Common Place is now closed and while Pedallers’ Arms are looking for somewhere to move to we’ll be closed too. But don’t despair! We have a few ideas and will hopefully find somewhere soon. Watch this space! And see the post below for a request for help.

Hi friends, strangers, bike riders and space holders.

This is an urgent callout for a NEW SPACE from which to run Pedallers Arms, Leeds’ very own DIY bike co-op.

WHAT DO WE NEED?

For reasons that are beyond our control, The Common Place is due to close on the 1st May 2011. This means that Pedallers needs a NEW SPACE. We have some ideas as to what this could be like and are hoping
you might be able to help. We would really like it to be somewhere that could be ours, although we are definitely up for the possibilities of sharing with other groups (or bands, artists?) providing our needs and hours were compatible. We can pay but not loads.

Can you help? This is what we need:

Essential

– 55m^2 (600 sq ft) working space

– 10m^3 (650 cubic feet) for storage

– Access to a toilet and sink

– Light

– Reasonably central location

– Lockable

Desirable

– Enough space for a social area

– High enough ceilings to suspend bikes, frames etc above head height.

– City centre location

The Common Place has been an invaluable space to us and countless other groups and individuals over the years, come and say goodbye on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd.

The Pedallers Arms

After the successful session for women and transgender people there is a push to try holding a monthly session. If you are interested in coming along, making it happening, learning skills e.t.c please get in touch.

We are also planning some rides round the Leeds area, nothing too stressful but a nice social with a picnic / pub. More information to follow. Come down to the Common Place Mon & Wens 4-8pm.

On the weekend of the 12th of Feb Pedallers Arms, Split Peaches, and a special guest from Bristol are organising a bike maintenance course for women and transgendered people.

We hope to have some cycling fun too. Maybe an illuminated bike ride or a critical mass with a sound system….

There will be a charge to cover costs, but we will try to keep it as low cost as possible.

Please let us know how much you know about bike maintenance when replying so the instructor knows at what level to teach the course.

More details to follow but contact us if you there is something specific you would like us to go though.

Peddlers Arms is taking a holiday but we’ll be open again from Monday 10th January and we’ll then be open every Monday and Wednesday 4 – 8pm as normal. Enjoy the snow!

Good to see lots of cyclists braving the snow (although I think the brave part is risking having a car slide into you…eek). So a few of us will be opening Peddlers Arms today, 1st December, 3 – 6pm. There might be someone here later, but I can’t guarantee it.

We’ve moved our opening hours back an hour, so we’re now open 4 – 8pm Mondays and Wednesdays. Hopefully this will mean that folk who work in the day and might not be able to get here until 6pm will still have a couple of hours to sort their bike out. But since it takes an hour for us to pack everything away and we’d rather not be in The Common Place until stupid o’clock we’d prefer it if people didn’t turn up after 7pm to start a new job on their bike, unless you’re sure you can get it done before 8pm! Thank you!
